Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton

Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton

Tom Felton first rose to fame as a child actor with parts in The Borrowers and Anna and the King, but those couldn’t prepare him for his role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter, which he would win at the age of 12. He would portray the blond villain on screen for the next decade, returning to a normal life between movies. But how normal can your life be when your alter ego is Harry Potter’s school nemesis?

With great charm and humor, Tom tells stories of his early days in the business, details his life in both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds, what it was like to work with cinematic legends such as Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, and Ralph Fiennes, and shines a light on his enduring friendships with Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

Summary: "There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris:

1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved,

2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and

3) She doesn't know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store."

I love Janie. She is relatable and fun. She's smart-ish, yet kinda dumb, too. I loved her trivial info-dumps.

Kiss the Girl by Zoraida Cordova

Summary: "Ariel del Mar is one of the most famous singers in the world. Anyone would think she’s the girl who has everything.

But lately, she wants more. Ariel and her sisters sneak out of their Manhattan penthouse for a night of incognito fun at a rock concert in Brooklyn. It’s there that Ariel crosses paths with Eric Reyes, dreamy lead singer of an up-and-coming band. Unaware of her true identity, Eric spontaneously invites her on the road for the summer. And for the first time in her life, Ariel disobeys her father—and goes with him.

Caught between the world she longs for and the one she’s left behind, can Ariel follow her dreams, fall in love, and, somehow, find her own voice?"

The setting, the descriptions, the re-telling of The Little Mermaid was all done really well. Some of the chapters were swoon-worthy toward the end.

(I just wish the plot had a little bit more intrigue and action.)
