Of Sunlight and Stardust by Riley Hart

Of Sunlight and StardustOf Sunlight and Stardust by Riley Hart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow. I loved the layers in this, between a past story and a present story. The past story takes place as journal entries that the current characters read together, so it alternates between present and past. It shows a good contrast from intolerance to acceptance for the LGBT community across decades.

This is also achingly sweet and wildly sexy. It held my full attention.

Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Corrupt (Devil's Night, #1)Corrupt by Penelope Douglas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is all kinds of twisted. I spent 1/3 of the time reading it wondering if I should be hating this book instead of loving it. It inspired all kinds of conflicting emotions, and I had no clue how anything was going to work itself out or if it even could.

I have to say I have never read anything quite like this, so Penelope Douglas continues to surprise me. This is one unexpected revenge themed story.

I think my mixed emotions and reactions to this story can best be summed up using GIFs.

#BecRereads2018

Rereading this one left me feeling so frayed around the edges. I remembered the difficult story line, the Australian charm, and the fascinating, nonlinear approach in which 20+ years were woven together in what feels like a random fashion (but is definitely not random) to create one story. The unique way in which the story is told has always stood out to me.

I did not remember (or chose not to) how much it actually hurts to read this one, nor how much of the story is composed of grief and misunderstanding. There's also a lot of joy here, but I think that only a span of 4 years has made a difference in how I absorbed this story. I think it's still a great read, but the feels wrecked me this time.
