Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

Pages: 465

"When an ill-advised boast draws the attention of the king of the Staryk--grim fey creatures who seem more ice than flesh--Miryem's fate, and that of two kingdoms, will be forever altered. Set an impossible challenge by the nameless king, Miryem unwittingly spins a web that draws in a peasant girl, Wanda, and the unhappy daughter of a local lord who plots to wed his child to the dashing young tsar. But Tsar Mirnatius is not what he seems. And the secret he hides threatens to consume the lands of humans and Staryk alike. Torn between deadly choices, Miryem and her two unlikely allies embark on a desperate quest that will take them to the limits of sacrifice, power, and love."

Spinning Silver is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin anchored in reality. Miryem gains a reputation as a moneylender who turns silver into gold through investments and interest. Unfortunately mysterious creatures called the Staryk covet gold and want her to make some for them. The clever solutions to the challenges are amazing and the universe that the author weaves is so magically atmospheric. The story is told through six different perspectives, but it does not get muddled and confusing like other multiple pov stories. The separate threads flowed with each other so well and kept me excited to see each one instead of waiting to go back to the original.

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

Yes my brain automatically went to "If the shoe fits, walk in it, till your high heels break"
Me: hi can I have a meet-cute on my plane ride, please.
It's Cinderella, and it's the Bachelor. And the mice are there in the form of triplets, and like.... fdjklsafjklds
I loved all the side characters, and how Henry had more depth than the original Prince Charming (but again, that wasn't really hard). :P
Did I love that it was a fashion designer and person who runs/owns a fashion company...yes...because yes it reminds me of my favorite ship in the world, Adrienette,

Of Thorn and Thread by Chanda Hahn

Any one else getting Matthias vibes. #yes he is my type. Yes I am weak and I am over here in a giant puddle of adsfjlk
Liam:

The empath power. The hurt/comfort. I. am here for it. I am basic, and I know it. Y'all can tell me I don't have taste, but I don't care. I love fairy tales and y'all can't stop me
Liam always being confused and uncomfortable gives me life.
I can't. I can't handle this. Because goals. Because romantic gestures. 330 Pages

Of Sea and Song by Chanda Hahn

You can't just introduce a snarky guy who helps save someone and then move on...like...come on. I just.
Oh thank God.
I am no man.
fdsajfklas;jfdklsajfdklajdfklasjd;
All of the evil cackling because I'm getting all of my favorite tropes on the ship.
Ok but all the Disney nods as well as nods to the original Little Mermaid story. Chef's kiss.
Brennon, Meri. I'm just. I can't.

Of Glass and Glamour by Chanda Hahn

Twenty bucks that Dorian is the prince....because he charming (kind of)
I can't decide who to ship
Aha. We good.
She's like America from the Selection and the "I came here for the food"
"It's the Wizard who should be afraid. Of me"
That scene in the Princess Diaries where they eat the sherbet
And that scene in Ella Enchanted
You mean this:
The fluff.

Enna Burning by Shannon Hale

Finn!! Isi! Geric! All of my babies.
So much tension. Like everyone about to snap.
Can we please just let Geric take a nap.
All of the yearning. A+ quality content. That's some good stuff.
It's the gaslighting for me.
#friendship is magic
I love the characters. I love the magic. I love the friendshisp. Cavity-inducing tooth-rotting fluff right here.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

So one of my friends ADORES this series. and now I know why. the fluff. The absolutely fluff-fest. I'm here for it.
Me knowing that there will be a ship, watching for all of the ships.
djfksjdafkljsadkfljsakl
Isi is too pure for this world. We don't deserve her.
The Emotional Support Goose.
The magic system. Chef's kiss. The father figures. Chef's kiss. The friendship. Great. The love interest. Fantastic. We stan men who adore their love interests and treat them with respect.
Geric is just so anxious and I love it.
Insert the pride and prejudice hand gif, and the cornfield scene from Wicked, and the Ella Enchanted fight scene
If I were to go off on an enneagram tangent I would totally talk about how Isi is definitely a 4 and honestly. I love it (yes it's because I'm a 4).
The audiobook had a full cast and like...I can't.

One True King by Soman Chainani

Merlin's beard...hehe

SOPHIE WhAt Do YoU mEaN "At least" Excuse you.

I love Merlin
ExCuSe YoU giving me advice in my quarter-life crisis...
Sorry I just have the classic "It's me--don't shoot" joke in my head...the real one would never turn down the opportunity to die....
Ooooooh Indiana Jones
Insert Eliza Hamilton gasp
Ok so I have a ship endgame, and like...if it doesn't happen I might die.
This seems like a Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean issue....
Did I scream "NOOOO" at a plot twist in the work parking lot as I was leaving and get concerned looks from coworkers....yes...
......Why would you end it there.

A Princess of Wind and Wave by Melanie Cellier

Ok so as a youngest child who wants things, I feel called out.
Alexa play "Part of Your World" performed by Jessie J
The yearning, y'all
And my head is in the gutter. Curses.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand we back. The yearning. It's so cute
fdsjkalfjdsklafjklsajf;

A Captive of Wing and Feather by Melanie Cellier

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That's who she is.
Ugh I don't know who to ship.
Ok so I always cringe at the "Confessing/declaring love" scene. Like...so much second-hand embarrassment...

Alexander. Perfect. I love him.
I love the way that the seven dwarves and the Disney homages were brought in.
Oh the fluff. Chef's kiss

Of Beast and Beauty by Chanda Hahn

Some of this vibes like John Mulaney's: "I've never climbed a fence that high before! And then I woke up at home"
Me whenever I read any Beauty and the Beast retellings:

So I'm loving this world set up... I'm here for this kind of crossover.
I really hope we get to see past characters in later books because like...we all know I have a special place in my heart for certain characters and I will stalk them through their worlds.
Yes. It's on the prince. Don't act surprised. We knew this would happen.
The twists. I saw them coming. But they were great. I'm here for it. Give me more.

Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Crimson BoundArmand is great. Rachelle is great. Armand, like I said, is great.
I love fantasy and fairy tales, and I loved the atmosphere of this book.
I had a gif in mind at one point and I lost it.
........Dude all the Catholic things... and the imagery and metaphors...Confession is a wonderful thing.
Like I know that it's not technically Catholicism in the book, but like....come on.
Totally had some The Last Battle vibes going on there for a sec.
Ok but she's a Catholic author, and I love her.
