The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles #1) by Laurie Forest

Summary: "A new Black Witch will rise…her powers vast beyond imagining.

Elloren Gardner is the granddaughter of the last prophesied Black Witch, Carnissa Gardner, who drove back the enemy forces and saved the Gardnerian people during the Realm War. But while she is the absolute spitting image of her famous grandmother, Elloren is utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above all else. As evil looms on the horizon and the pressure to live up to her heritage builds, everything Elloren thought she knew will be challenged and torn away. Her best hope of survival may be among the most unlikely band of rebels…if only she can find the courage to trust those she’s been taught to fear."

WELL, that was surprisingly good!

The Dating Drama by Sara Martin

Summary: "Chloe Gibson's dating the man of her dreams-a talented and gorgeous K-drama star. But there's just one catch: they have to keep their relationship secret. This isn't the ideal romance Chloe used to fantasise about.

Fortunately, there's a glimmer of hope on the horizon. The couple have an agreement that after one year of dating in secret, they'll front up to the South Korean media and go public with their relationship.

But the year won't be smooth sailing.

When a mysterious package shows up, Chloe's life is thrust into chaos. Soon she's being plagued by creepy anonymous messages and the unsettling feeling she's being followed.

The question is no longer whether the relationship will survive, it's will Chloe survive?"

Was it terrible? Kinda. Did I enjoy it? Kinda.

A Curse for True Love (Once Upon a Broken Heart #3) by Stephanie Garber

Summary: "Two villains, one girl, and a deadly battle for happily ever after."

JACKS!

I wanted a bit more. The end of the second book was so wonderfully painful and bittersweet, and thus, my expectations were insanely high for this one.

The Wrong Mr. Right by Stephanie Archer

The Practice Kiss by Sara Martin

Summary: "When Chloe Gibson accepts an English teaching job in Korea, the last thing she expects is to end up broke and alone, wandering the streets of Seoul with nowhere to go. But just as she’s ready to give up and go home, a twist of fate lands her a role in a new K-drama."

Are these books well-written? Not really.

But are they easy to read and comforting when I'm overwhelmed? Yes.

Beard Science (Winston Brothers #3) by Penny Reid

Summary: "Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston. Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So... what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?"

CLETUS. How did I ever live without Cletus in my life?

Iron Flame (The Empyrean #2) by Rebecca Yarros

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

Summary: "There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris:

1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved,

2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and

3) She doesn't know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store."

I love Janie. She is relatable and fun. She's smart-ish, yet kinda dumb, too. I loved her trivial info-dumps.

(I just...if you get drugged at a club, GO TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP FFS /rant)

Kiss the Girl by Zoraida Cordova

Summary: "Ariel del Mar is one of the most famous singers in the world. Anyone would think she’s the girl who has everything.

But lately, she wants more. Ariel and her sisters sneak out of their Manhattan penthouse for a night of incognito fun at a rock concert in Brooklyn. It’s there that Ariel crosses paths with Eric Reyes, dreamy lead singer of an up-and-coming band. Unaware of her true identity, Eric spontaneously invites her on the road for the summer. And for the first time in her life, Ariel disobeys her father—and goes with him.

Caught between the world she longs for and the one she’s left behind, can Ariel follow her dreams, fall in love, and, somehow, find her own voice?"

The setting, the descriptions, the re-telling of The Little Mermaid was all done really well. Some of the chapters were swoon-worthy toward the end.

(I just wish the plot had a little bit more intrigue and action.)

Forget Me Not by Julie Soto

Summary: "Ama Torres loves being a wedding planner. But with a mother who has been married more times than you can count on your fingers, Ama has decided that marriage is not the route for her. But weddings? Weddings are amazing. As a small business owner, she knows how to match her clients with the perfect vendor to give them the wedding of their dreams. Well, almost perfect…

Elliot hates being a florist, most of the time. When his father left him the flower shop, he considered it a burden, but he’s stuck with it. Just like how he’s stuck with the way he proposed to Ama, his main collaborator and girlfriend (or was she?) two years ago. But flowers have grown on him, just like Ama did. And flowers can’t run off and never speak to him again, like Ama did."

The writing was fun. The FLOWERS. The flower tattoos.

The zillion step-siblings.

Planes, Trains, and All the Feels by Livy Hart

Summary: "As the black sheep of the family, choreographer Cassidy Bliss vowed she’d do anything to get home in time to help with her sister’s wedding and avoid family disappointment… again . She just never expected “anything” would involve sharing the last rental car with the jerk who cut her off in line at the airport this morning. But horrible times apparently call for here-goes-nothing measures."

I'm here for an unexpected and unlikely pairing on a road trip anytime.

Luke is a sweetheart, and I love him.

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter

Summary: "It's the middle of the night in the middle of Paris and a woman just woke up with no memory. She only knows three things for certain:

1. She has a splitting headache.
2. The hottest guy she has (probably) ever seen is standing over her, telling her to run.

And oh yeah...

3. People keep trying to kill her."

And just like that, I'm in my Jason Bourne fangirl era again.

Zoe is me. I am Zoe. I LOVE HER.

The tease at a second book? YES, YES, YES.

The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead

Summary: "As a shy school librarian, Alexis Stone is comfortable keeping out of the spotlight. But when she’s dumped for being too meek, the humiliation is a wake-up call. She decides she needs to change..."

I loved parts of this book yet didn't like others. Hmmm.

Heads-up: read the sister's book, Fool Me Once, first!

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

Summary: "After seventeen-year-old prodigy portraitist Isobel receives her first royal patron, the fairies' autumn prince Rook, she makes a terrible mistake that upends her world."

(a re-read)

The cover? Still stunning.

The need for a sequel or novella? More intense than ever.

Not the Plan by Gia de Cadenet

Summary: "An ambitious chief of staff risks her career and her heart when she falls hard for her new colleague."

THE COMMUNICATION!

Still a bit of a miscommunication trope, but I'll forgive it for how well they communicate the rest of the book.

I liked the author's writing style.

Wild Bond by Laurie Ford

Summary: "A thief who becomes a dragon rider…

After surviving two years in the castle dungeons for a crime she didn’t exactly commit, a stroke of luck allows Corrine Darrow a second chance at freedom. During the Bonding Celebrations—the one time each year when wild dragons find their riders—Rin is given the opportunity to petition her case. But her hopes are quickly dashed when she is brought before the queen’s ruthless spymaster—the very dragon rider who captured her in the first place.

When Rake’s intense gaze locks on her once more, Rin is sure he will send her back to her cell. But before her future can be decided, fate intercedes. Now, Rin must train to become a dragon rider, one of the fierce warriors who protect her world. That won’t be easy with Rin’s thieving reputation, the fellow trainees that mistrust her, and the fiery attraction she feels towards a man she should despise."

I just needed more dragons to help with the Fourth Wing hangover. The dragons in their mini-form are just too adorable!!!

Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher

Summary: "A fake relationship between a magic-less witch and a wolf shifter turns to more in the start of a bewitching new paranormal rom-com series.

Magic-less witch Violet Maxwell wants nothing to do with alpha wolf shifter Lincoln Thorne―the man who broke her fragile, teenage heart. Good mostly! Could've used more shifting and magic. Still looking forward to the other sisters' stories!
