Cursed by Marissa Meyer

I was really afraid there was going to be a relationship change, or that there was going to be a different ending, and I would have had to throw hands.

Gilded by Marissa Meyer

Ok but like.. I love the mythology of this and how the chapters are set up around the moon....yes I know it's a simple thing.
Am I getting Binks and his sister from Hocus Pocus vibes....yes....
And I have a theory about Serilda's stories.
Also I have a theory on who Gild is but we'll see how right I am

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

HeartlessWhen you Google a character to find fanart, and Google does a fill in that is a spoiler (or might not be a spoiler).
I'm not really an Alice in Wonderland fan, but I loved this, especially seeing how the Queen of Hearts became the Queen of Hearts. I loved watching the spiral.
My brain may or may not have been playing "March of the Witch Hunters" from Wicked.... And "What Baking Can Do" from Waitress.
....yeah I think in musicals.
I love Marissa Meyer's writing style.

Supernova by Marissa Meyer

Adrian...Pepe Silvia meme.
This might be Miraculous Ladybug level idiocy...
Max, I love you. You is so smart.
I. AM. SO. STRESSED. OUT.
How dare he take that. I'm crying. It hurts too much.
Clapback for FrostBite...I take it back
I have so many feelings about the politics and use of fear and control as propaganda. I want to spend like twelve hours analyzing it.The world's idea of what is right versus what is truly right and what is just. Let me pull out my soapbox about the death penalty and how it can encourage people to hold onto hatred and forget about forgiveness. Because forgiveness isn't saying that what they did is ok; it's saying that you're not going to make them pay back what they took from you. Wonder-Woman: It's not about what you deserve, it's about what you believe.
The idea that you don't see how evil and corrupt something is until you're personally involved somehow, and you're able to let it slide, because it's not your problem. Marissa Meyer you Goddess.
TURBO! Crying Meme

Archenemies by Marissa Meyer

Adrian and Nova being cute little nerds....you can't just be that adorable and cute together and expect me to be ok..

I think I am Callum....like.....I love his enthusiasm and passion. Me. My spirit. His gift would probably be my gift. I love it.
Dads are embarrassing me. I love them.
Nova getting in some sick punchlines.
Max. Too pure. Too good for this world. Cinnamon roll.

Everything was fine and then they had to rip my heart out....Seriously....this is why communication is important. This is why honesty is important.
This is almost as bad as Miraculous Ladybug. How do they...*Glares at fourth wall* They are so stupid.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Y'all I live for villains who think they're heroes. Sign me up. Evil laughter...Finally I can let out all my pent up evil laughs...
I also live for villains who are actually heroes and have the heart of a hero.
I love Marissa Meyer's world building...
Bad Reputation plays while Nova kills it. She sassy.
Adrian must be protected. He is stupid and I love him. So stupid.
When you picture a character a certain way in your head for 7/8 of the book....and you find out he looks different... I'm shook. How do you fix your brain...Crud.
Max is a boss and deserves the world.
Nova...Just...Just indulge your romantic urges for three seconds...Please.
Elphaba's No Good Deed plays in the background.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

#BecRereads2018

Bloody brilliant. It has a well-paced, intricate plot, fascinating characters, and solid imagery. Plus, it viciously fist punches you in chest, leaving you gasping for breath, which is always fun in a miserable sort of way.

My previous review still stands.

The Lunar Chronicles is one of my all-time favorite book series, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on Marissa Meyer's new book, Heartless.

....I wish I had never heard of it.

....Marissa Meyer is the one who is HEARTLESS.

Stars Above by Marissa Meyer

Stars AboveStars Above by Marissa Meyer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you loved the Lunar Chronicles series, you won't want to miss the collection of novellas.

There are 5, brand new, thoroughly enjoyable, complete novellas that present delightful looks at different moments in time for our most beloved characters. This collection also includes the 3 novellas that were previously released for free on WattPad. The different between the 5 and the 3 is that I always felt like all the freebies were good, but 2 of the 3 were teaser novellas and ended abruptly. These 5 new novellas do a better job of standing alone as individual stories, and I really enjoyed that.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

The Lunar Chronicles is a YA Science-Fiction series based on fairytale retellings. They aren’t full retellings, as they vary from the initial stories to a good extent, but you’ll see aspects of each fairy tale, some more fractured than others, pop up here and there throughout the stories and series. The series as a whole is exciting and action-packed with creative technology, unique characters who are easy to love, and terrible villains whom you will love to hate.

There are 4 novellas, 3 of which aren’t mandatory, but if you love the series, you’ll want to read them for the small bits of insight they bring to the series and world. Fairest is the 4th novella, and it should be read (in my opinion), as part of the series. Technically, it’s not part of the progressing storyline, but it provides so much useful insight into the villain of this series, that it would be a shame not to read it before the final book.  Read it after Cress and before Winter.

Glitches (The Lunar Chronicles, #0.5)Glitches by Marissa Meyer  (Novella 0.5)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This novella explores Cinder’s life when she first came to live with the Linh family. It’s heartbreaking and gives you a glimpse of a younger Cinder.

Pages: 32

The Little Android (The Lunar Chronicles, #0.6)The Little Android by Marissa Meyer  (Novella 0.6)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a creative retelling of The Little Mermaid. It’s completely separate from the books, but it does have a Cinder cameo. It’s sad but good.

Pages: 35

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Cinder by Marissa Meyer           (Book 1)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a retelling of Cinderella, complete with Cyborgs, and androids, and a lunar plague. Oh, my! Cinder is a cyborg who works as a mechanic in the marketplace, but all of her wages go to her evil stepmother, since cyborgs have no rights. When the crown prince brings by his android to the marketplace to be fixed, Cinder hides her true self, and the story spirals into chaos from there. If you’re not sure about the series, read this book first. Once you love it, you can go back and read Glitches (0.5) and The Little Android (0.6) at any point.

The Queen's Army (The Lunar Chronicles, #1.5)The Queen's Army by Marissa Meyer          (Novella 1.5)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This novella provides more of the backstory on Wolf. I read it before Scarlet. It’s also a teaser novella to motivate you to read the next book, so don’t expect a complete story. It does cut off right at a point where you hope for more, which isn’t a problem if you already have book 2.

Pages: 18

Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)Scarlet by Marissa Meyer           (Book 2)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a sci-fi adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood. The focus shifts to a new heroine, Scarlet, a farm girl whose grandmother has gone missing. Scarlet is not sure whether or not the lunar guy who was genetically modified into part wolf is to be trusted or blamed for that. This story is a continuation from book one and still includes most of the characters you loved from Cinder. It's a fantastic sequel, every bit as enjoyable and interesting as the first book.

 Pages: 512

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)Cress by Marissa Meyer             (Book 3)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cress is the futuristic version of Rapunzel. Cress has been trapped for almost her whole life inside a satellite, tasked with the job of spying on Earth for the head thaumaturge (evil government bad guys with mind control powers) of Queen Levana. Scarlet and Cinder attempt to rescue Cress from her isolation, but things go wrong. Very wrong. This is another fantastic book, and Cress is a refreshingly different heroine.

Pages: 592

Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)Fairest by Marissa Meyer           (Novella 3.5)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From a fairy tale standpoint, this aligns with Maleficent’s story, but it’s far different from that and well worth reading for some excellent insight and background to Queen Levana, who is a fantastically evil villain. She's not nearly as redeemable as Maleficent, but I was fascinated by the depth of her issues and self-delusions.

Pages: 272

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)Winter by Marissa Meyer           (Book 4)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ah, Snow White, re-imagined in the most unexpected way possible, complete with Winter, a main character who is mentally unbalanced and eccentric, but extremely lovable. This is how you end a series: not with a whimper but a bang.

Winter by Marissa Meyer

Winter is the fourth and final book in The Lunar Chronicles series. Even though this book is much longer than the others, I never wanted it to end. Princess Winter is a unique and fresh addition to the stories of Cinder, Scarlet and Cress. I can't say much else without giving away spoilers, but I hope that this isn't the last we hear from these amazing characters. Marissa Meyer is a wonderful writer and story-teller, and I hope she continues writing fairy-tale inspired stories for a long time.

Cress by Marissa Meyer

Cress is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series. It adds the story of Cress, a re-imagining of Rapunzel, to Cinder and Scarlet's continuing story. In this version, however, Cress is a young girl tucked away in a satellite in space, who has become a master hacker. Her story intersects with Scarlet, Wolf, Cinder and Thorne in the most painful of ways. I couldn't put Cress down either, and I really enjoyed reading Cress's chapters. I'm not as familiar with the Rapunzel lore, so I didn't really know what to expect from her story, other than that she would have really long hair (which she does).

Winter, the next book in the series, comes out November 10, 2015!! I can't wait.

522 pages

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series. It adds the characters of Scarlet, Captain Thorne and Wolf to Cinder's story from Book 1. The chapters alternate between Cinder, Scarlet and Kai's points of view (maybe a few others; I can't remember). Scarlet lives in a small town in France with her grandmother, but her grandmother has been kidnapped. Scarlet meets Wolf, and they set out to find her grandmother in Paris. This story loosely follows the Little Red Riding Hood tale, which makes it familiar and comforting. However, the mix-up of the story keeps you guessing and the book overall fresh and exciting. I really enjoyed Scarlet... much more than Cinder. Scarlet and Wolf have great chemistry, while Thorne adds some much-needed humor to the books.

I could hardly put this book down, and as soon as I finished it, I was on the hunt for Book 3!
