Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving by Pete Walker

Ok but like....am I seeing how far I've come in my healing...yes... Am I still working on stuff. Also yes.
I really liked that he went through and showed the process of healing and the steps (in terms of things that need to be dealt with first in order to more fully deal with deeper issues), and gave examples of flashbacks.
I also really liked how he went into the four trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and detailed other ways that they present themselves even as subtypes.

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

Daphne Bridgerton has formed friendships with some of the most eligible bachelors in London. She's kind and witty, which is exactly what no man is looking for. She's too honest, and unwilling to play games. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Back in London from his travels, he's cool and aloof, and determined to avoid marriage and society. A chance encounter with Daphne, younger sister of Simon's friend Anthony, gets Simon to thinking. A fake courtship will get the Ambitious Mamas of the ton off his back, and Daphne's prospects will improve. Their plan works like a charm--at first.

The Rig Veda (Penguin Classics)

One of the oldest sacred texts in the world, it was very interesting to see a glimpse of ancient Indian culture, as well as the mythological foundation of much of the Western world-for example, Indra, king of the gods, has many of the same qualities/abilities as the Greek Zeus, and the name of Varuna the sky god of order is a cognate of Ouranos (Uranus). The descriptions of ritual and stories of the gods were most interesting (sooo many cows!) I was looking forward to the chapter on women, until I read the introduction: "The Rig Veda is a text written by men, for men, about men". Oh... Oh no. Yes, it was as bad as it sounds, and so crude! *disappointed, but not surprised*

Of Beast and Beauty by Chanda Hahn

Some of this vibes like John Mulaney's: "I've never climbed a fence that high before! And then I woke up at home"
Me whenever I read any Beauty and the Beast retellings:

So I'm loving this world set up... I'm here for this kind of crossover.
I really hope we get to see past characters in later books because like...we all know I have a special place in my heart for certain characters and I will stalk them through their worlds.
Yes. It's on the prince. Don't act surprised. We knew this would happen.
The twists. I saw them coming. But they were great. I'm here for it. Give me more.

Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio by Derf Backderf

I knew of it, but I really didn't know about this event. Wow, the research that was put into this, hunting down the firsthand accounts and interviews of everyone involved. Backderf's work is always great. If you haven't yet read My Friend Dahmer I'd highly recommend it. (That title though! Of course I had that song stuck in my head all the way through it...)

The Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado, Dani and Tamra Bonvillain

Excellent example of body horror. That stomach/sinkhole image will stick with me for a while. Also, why do dear-headed women keep showing up in the things I read recently? Maybe it's too much horror. Wait, no... you can never have too much horror.

Sapiens: A Graphic History: The Birth of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari, David Vandermeulen, and Daniel Casanave

Yeah, I've been meaning to get to this one for a while. No, I don't think it's cheating to opt for the graphic novel adaptation. Honestly, I love reading about paleoanthropology and  early human history, so I may go back to the print at some point anyway.
