Whenever I think of a person turning into a hawk, though, I think of two things: the villain from Stuart little 2 (who apparently is actually a falcon), and the villain from Swan Lake barbie (maybe it's the nose).... I feel like there was also a character in one of the Barbie movies that turned into a hawk (or maybe it was a raven or something--it was something angsty), and my brain kept playing that animation
I feel like there could have been more build and redemption....because  yeah.....

I really like the world and the magic, and how the kingdoms work. Like the transformations and the ways power works. Chef kiss.
..Ok but I'm like...really suspicious...because yeah..... I'm getting Hans of the Southern Isles vibes.... But I don't want that... I'm not ready to be hurt again...
I KNEW THERE WERE SWAN PRINCESS VIBES I FREAKING KNEW IT
....yeah I'm in denial about a very specific....there's no way he's actually... like I get it, but still, it was too easy....but this could be an Elphaba Fiyero situation, right? Or is this a Shatter Me series situation.... Ooooooor...

And now I need to read the next one, even though I have a ton of other overdue books and books that are automatically returning in 3 days...And I'm in pain again. Just freaking great.

Defy by Sara B Larson

...the main character's name is Alexa...how am I supposed to not...like..make Alexa jokes... So I'm really glad she went by Alex for a lot of the book..
I love Alexa's heart and how much she cares. I think that could have been a really amazing thing to explore, because she has a different perspective (because she's a GIRL)--like I would have loved to see more with the women's houses and fighting the system there. There could have been like a hundred pages of "character vs. world" conflict. Less angst about boys (dare I say it) and more angst about the world... I dunno.
..I kinda wish it had been darker...like...I dunno... Maybe it's because I'm in a dark and gloomy fantasy kick rn...
I feel like the conflict could have been done better, and there could have been more showing/observing of the characters.
I really liked the concept and the characters. I love Damian and Rylan. They're cool.
