Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James

The characters from my favorite Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice, come together at Pemberley for a good old fashioned murder mystery. I had actually watched the miniseries of this before coming to the book, and I found the miniseries better if just because Jenna Coleman does a great Lydia. James tries to write in the way of Austin, but I just found it more dull than witty. I also wanted Lizzie to do more, but to no avail. Ah well.

PREVIOUS REVIEW:
I can’t begin to say how much I love this story, and every person who’s ever loved a book or character to a fangirl or fanboy level should definitely read this novel and can probably relate to this novel in a very personal way, even if your level of obsession does not equal Cath’s.

If the above does not describe you, then read this novel anyway. Afterwards, send me a message. I will help you find a story with characters you adore and who become important to you, much like Simon Snow does for Cath, because everyone should have or experience that at least once in their life.

It wound long fingers around my heart so slowly and gently that I did not realize it until it was too late, and I could no longer pull away from the story.

I like this novel even better knowing the author wrote it as a NaNoWriMo novel, because too many people think or assume that what gets written that month is not worthy material. This is definitely worthy.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Summary: "Cath struggles to survive on her own in her first year of college while avoiding a surly roommate, bonding with a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words, and worrying about her fragile father."

Cath also struggles with separating from her twin sister while at college and dealing with her mother who abandoned them. To cope with her personal problems, Cath relies on writing fanfaction for her favorite book series, Simon Snow, (which is very similar to Harry Potter). Fangirl is unique in that it includes snippets from both the fictional Simon Snow series as well as snippets of Cath's fanfiction at the beginning of each chapter.

I enjoyed the book overall, but the ending doesn't provide much satisfaction or closure.
