The Serpent by Sarah Fine

The Serpent (Immortal Dealers, #1)The Serpent by Sarah Fine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is such a unique concept and fascinating world.

The only reason it gets 4 stars is that sometimes there is so much world building at once that it is just information overload, and I found myself backing up to reread a lot in those sections, hoping the information would stick with me better. Otherwise, it’s a pretty solid fantasy/paranormal blend.

Reliquary Trilogy by Sarah Fine (3 books)

Reliquary (Reliquary, #1)Reliquary by Sarah Fine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a dark and twisty adult paranormal novel. The characters are salty, and the story is spicy.

It continues to prove that Sarah Fine is an excellent writer with a head full of strange ideas and stories that I always enjoy reading. She has a real knack for pacing and plot, which I don't typically recognize until after I have raced through another of her stories. They all read so easily that I rarely pick up something by her and don't finish it the same day.

Also, the audiobook reader (Carly Robins) is excellent, and she has to deal with a wide variety of personalities and even accents in this series.

Splinter (Reliquary, #2)Splinter by Sarah Fine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 2 is also excellent, though I at times wanted to shake the MC for her thought, actions, and behaviors. She just handles things in a way that is quite different from me, though that should be expected, as she is not me.

This book suffers under the illusion of a love triangle, though it's clear one point of the triangle doesn't belong in the equation.

Mosaic (Reliquary, #3)Mosaic by Sarah Fine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is not the last book in the series. I don't accept that is the case, based on the ending. If it is, then my rating should lose a star.

However, despite Fine's penchant for trilogies, I don't think she's done with this series, which makes the end of book 3 completely logical and understandable. Fine has a way of ending series that is complete and satisfying, so I think perhaps this series needs 1 or 2 more books, as we don't seem to have come to the end of the Mattie's story.

I remain hopeful and will patiently wait for Fine to write book 4, even though that might not have been the publisher's original intention for this series.

Servants of Fate Trilogy by Sarah Fine

I picked up this adult trilogy after enjoying the YA fantasy/paranormal trilogy, Guards of the Shadowlands, by Sarah Fine. This series is also set in a fascinating, creative world, but it definitely leans hard to the romance side, whereas the YA novels focused more on the fantasy and action. That isn't bad, but it was just different from what I expected. Despite that, I still enjoyed the series, as Sarah Fine is an excellent writer who knows how to build a world and allow characters to change and grow in a way that feels both natural and satisfying.

Marked (Servants of Fate, #1)Marked by Sarah Fine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Here's the concept, quoted directly from the Goodreads synopsis, "In a broken landscape carved by environmental collapse, Boston paramedic Cacia Ferry risks life and limb on the front lines of a fragile and dangerous city. What most don’t know—including her sexy new partner, Eli Margolis—is that while Cacy works to save lives, she has another job ferrying the dead to the Afterlife."

I picked this novel up after enjoying Guards of the Shadowlands. This is also an interesting fantasy/paranormal trilogy, based on a unique world/life concept, but it leans hard towards the romance novel side. It's still action-packed, intense, and captivating, as all novels by Sarah Fine seem to be, so I'm kind of glad I didn't realize that before reading, as I might have hesitated or delayed. In the end, I still really enjoyed the story and world, despite the different focus.

Claimed (Servants of Fate, #2)Claimed by Sarah Fine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the adult series Servants of Fate, and it's another solid read by Sarah Fine.

Book two follows the story of Eli's sister (Eli is the love interest in book 1) and digs into another side of this dark, intriguing world.

Fated (Servants of Fate, #3)Fated by Sarah Fine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this trilogy, though I do like Guards of the Shadowlands by Sarah Fine even better. However, that's an unfair comparison, as the two novels are in different categories and genres, and I always tend to lean more favorably towards YA fantasy than Adult romance.

The final trilogy follows the story of Cacia's older sister (Cacia is the main character in book one), and it takes the story into yet another direction, digging even deeper into this complicated world.

Stories from the Shadowlands by Sarah Fine

Stories from the Shadowlands (Guards of the Shadowlands, #3.1)Stories from the Shadowlands by Sarah Fine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable companion to the Guards of the Shadowlands series and should be read after completing the series. Many of these stories are told from a male perspective, particularly Malachi's perspective, which was an interesting change of pace. If you adored the trilogy, then you will definitely want to read this, just so you can spend a bit more time in a fascinating world.

The first story is the longest, encompassing about half the book, and it's Malachi's story, told through journal entries, from when he becomes a Guard of the Shadowlands through Lela's time in the Shadowlands.

Chaos by Sarah Fine

Chaos (Guards of the Shadowlands, #3)Chaos by Sarah Fine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm still reeling from the loss of adrenaline after finishing this book. It's fast-paced with a lot of WOW! and NOOOOO! and YESSS!!! and WHY??? and ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

It's a great closer to an excellent YA Fantasy/Paranormal trilogy about the underworld. I'm going to dig up everything else written by Sarah Fine, because I really enjoyed her storytelling. Her books are exciting, with good pacing, interesting characters, and excellent world building.

Fractured by Sarah Fine

Fractured (Guards of the Shadowlands, #2)Fractured by Sarah Fine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 2 in this series is excellent, and I now find myself needing to read everything Sarah Fine has ever written. Whereas book 1 brought Lela from the real world to hell, book 2 brought hell to the real world, which was an interesting change of pace.

The ending to this book is quite brutal, so make sure you have book 3 in hand before you finish book 2.

Sanctum by Sarah Fine

Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1)Sanctum by Sarah Fine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well, this book made me want to go straight to hell.

When Lela's best friend Nadia kills herself, Lela sneaks through the Suicide Gates of hell, in an attempt to rescue Nadia, which is where she happens upon both brutal demons and the leather-clad, blade-wielding Guards of the Shadowlands. Everything just gets better. . . or perhaps I should say worse, from there.
