Fangirl Vol 2: The Manga by Rainbow Rowell and Sam Maggs

GINGERBREAD LATTES.
AND THE OUTSIDERS SCENE.
And the iconic "I'm scared of everything. And I'm crazy. Like maybe you think I'm a little crazy, but I only ever let people see the tip of my crazy iceberg. Underneath this veneer of slightly crazy and socially inept, I'm a complete disaster.”
Hi excuse me....where's the release date for Volume 3....
On the bright side, there be no cliffhanger because the book version is published

Fangirl Volume 1 by Rainbow Rowell and Gabi Nam

Soooooooooooo I love Fangirl....so having it manga/comic form is super cool.
Still not how I picture Levi but like.....I picture him like the guy from the youtube scene.
Ok so I love that it shows the progress of the manga like an Archive of Our Own heading.

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

British people learning the concept of how big America is. Beautiful. And I'm cackling. Cause each state is the size of a European country.
And Baz hates America almost as much as Americans do....Perfection. If he thinks it's bright in Illinois, he gonna hate California.
Simon is a puppy. I love him.
....Does Baz have the style sense of Harry Styles?jgkdfsjklgfjdskljfgdsa;fjla;sfjdl;asjflajsfl

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I loved Fangirl... Like I loved Fangirl. A. LOT. So getting to be in the world that Cath loved is amazing.... Plus all the Harry Potter vibes....

The spells, y'all. I love how they're like...all music/movie references.
Simon.. My baby.
Baz my beautiful boy.
All of the sass and snark.
I really like that the world is still steeped in popular culture. Like I didn't realize how great it was until like....Star Wars references....
....Magic belt buckle...iconic.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Carry OnCarry On by Rainbow Rowell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fan-freaking-tastic!

This could easily be read as a stand alone novel, but if you haven't read Fangirl yet, I encourage you to start there. That's where Simon and Baz first came to life, in Cath's (the main character of Fangirl) fan fiction. It seems only right to start there, especially as Fangirl is also an excellent story.

This story was different for Rainbow Rowell, and I absolutely adored it. My entire Saturday was consumed by reading this novel, because once I started it, there was no way I was going to put it down. It's the kind of story that begs you to lose yourself inside of it; clever, charming, ironic, amusing, heart-breaking, mysterious, hilarious, captivating, magical, nerdy. . .

No. It's not just nerdy. It's extremely bookish and nerdy, like YA book nerd paradise. It's like the inside of an 18-year-old bibliophile's head. All fangirls, fanboys, potterheads, twi-hards, and YA fanatics must read this story.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Summary: "Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits--smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try."

Eleanor faces a very tough home life with an emotionally abusive stepfather, but she finds peace in a growing relationship with her new friend Park. Eleanor and Park have a rocky start to their relationship when they are forced to sit next to each other on the school bus. Eleanor struggles with being bullied at school because of the way she looks and dresses (her family is  very poor), and Park struggles with how to handle his fondness for Eleanor while dealing with the way everyone else treats her.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Summary: "Cath struggles to survive on her own in her first year of college while avoiding a surly roommate, bonding with a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words, and worrying about her fragile father."

Cath also struggles with separating from her twin sister while at college and dealing with her mother who abandoned them. To cope with her personal problems, Cath relies on writing fanfaction for her favorite book series, Simon Snow, (which is very similar to Harry Potter). Fangirl is unique in that it includes snippets from both the fictional Simon Snow series as well as snippets of Cath's fanfiction at the beginning of each chapter.

I enjoyed the book overall, but the ending doesn't provide much satisfaction or closure.
