Beast Boy: Teen Titans #2 by Kami Garcia, Illustrated by Gabriel Picolo

Summary: "Garfield Logan has spent his entire life being overlooked. Even in a small town like Eden, Georgia, the 17-year-old with green streaks in his hair can’t find a way to stand out–and the clock is ticking. Senior year is almost over. If Gar doesn’t find a way to impress the Chosen Ones–the social elite at Bull Creek High School–he will never know what it’s like to matter."

THIS WAS SO GOOD!

Raven: Teen Titans #1 by Kami Garcia, Illustrated by Gabriel Picolo

Summary: "When a tragic accident takes the life of seventeen-year-old Raven Roth’s foster mom—and Raven’s memory—she moves to New Orleans to live with her foster mother’s family and finish her senior year of high school.

Starting over isn’t easy. Raven remembers how to solve math equations and make pasta, but she can’t remember her favorite song or who she was before the accident. When strange things start happening—things most people would consider impossible—Raven starts to think it might be better not to know who she was in her previous life. Raven has to decide if she’s ready to face what’s buried in the past...and the darkness building inside her."

The illustrations - BEAUTIFUL! I loved the way he drew Raven - just perfect. HER HAIR! I need more.

Broken beautiful hearts by Kami Garcia

Summary: "Staying with her uncle to recover from an injury caused by her ex-boyfriend that puts her athletic future at risk, Peyton resists her attraction to a local MMA fighter before her old and new lives collide, forcing her to confront difficult truths."

Kami Garcia reminds me of Katie McGarry, and I think that's why I enjoy her stories. Soccer and MMA, what more could I want?!

Some of the story was funny, while other parts were just not quite right. I found trouble with:

  • Peyton is rude to her family. I find it difficult to root for a character is rude, without the necessary character development to overcome it.
  • Of course, the pretty popular cheerleader is downright evil. Like, come on, can't we do better than this story line?

The best part of the book is the very end, when the author reveals that she herself suffered from the same abuse that Peyton had. I would have rather read directly about her own story.

The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia

Summary: "Romeo and Juliet meets The Fast and the Furious in this edgy romance set in the suburbs of Washington, DC."

Well, I LOVE The Fast and the Furious, so I was quite anxious to get my hands on this one! The Lovely Reckless was also recommended by Katie McGarry, and I can see why! The angst and romance were very similar to Katie McGarry's plot and story-telling style. While I enjoyed myself throughout this book, it left a little to be desired.

I'm sure you could predict the entire thing!
