Does the racism and Islamophobia bring out all my rage...yes.
I just wanna protect my babies who are just trying their best.
Sabaa Tahir makes me feel so many things and I was....like...so stressed out.
I cried at least twice.

Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (Books 1-3 Re-Read)
So yeah, I'm re-reading the series because the last book is coming out and I haven't read it in a few months...I don't want to miss things.
Ok so now the first trial is giving me tons of anxiety for the last book....
Also me knowing things from later on....klfddsjk. It hurts more.
This I swear by the stars!

Do you ever just listen to a character talk and get the vibes that they'll end up sacrificing themselves because they love a person....
...did they try combing the desert?
Hey look, it's GASLIGHTING.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir
Ok so every time they bring up "Nightbringer" I think of Night Man from It's Always Sunny...Elias:

Arwen from LOTR seeing her future..
Elias:

...Elias really is Rose from Titanic...
and some Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End vibes for very specific reasons...
...Like I said...Lord of the Rings...ghosts.. the battle speeches, the battle in Two Towers (minus the rain)
....Ok but Hamilton has ruined me, because now every time there's a battle I hear Right Hand Man, Stay Alive, Guns and Ships, or Yorktown depending on the situation....

...ok but the narrator's name being the person's identity...like "Blood Shrike" vs "Helene Aquilla"... That might ruin me.

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
fdsjsfdajklfdsjklsfdjklsfdI'm fine. Someone help me. I'm really stressed out for my babies...cause they deserve the world....I love Elias. I would kill everyone for him.
When people don't listen to their instincts and you just want to Gibbs slap them for being stupid...but maybe that's just dramatic irony. Laia I could have told you that was going on...
I just loved the plot for Elias. I'm stressed, but I live for angst. I love angst and suffering.... I'm mean... But can he please just get to take a nap for once.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
So this book was amazing... I love the concept. I love the characters. My baby Elias deserves the world. Someone protect him.
I think I have a thing for characters who are forced to do things they think are morally wrong and the internal conflict that ensues... soft hearts, y'all....

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa TahirMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This didn't move in the direction or at the speed I expected. I loved book one to extremes, and I confess I was quite sick and very distracted as I listened to this on audiobook. I probably should have waited, but I was anxious to read book 2. I am not sure if my love decreased due to the story or due to my poor reading behaviors and attention span while consuming this story.
Overall, I still enjoyed it, though it didn't make as much progress, in terms of the storyline, as I thought it would. I think I will listen to it again, right before book 3 is published, at which point I may change my rating.
I still love these characters and am fascinated by the world.
The villains are incredibly well-written and truly horrific.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa TahirMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Brutal and gorgeous.
In an empire of harsh, martial law, a soldier is no freer than a slave, and both are disposable.
This YA fantasy is lush and epic, with an intense plot, disturbing twists, and strong characters.
The most upsetting part about reading a debut novel is that after I adore it, I can't run out and get my hands on other books by the author. . . yet.
