Both amazing installments for this series. I really enjoyed Severin's arc even though I hated it in the moment and some of his choices. It was human and realistic and I wanted him to reach out to his friends the whole time. And I love Laila and how they wrapped up their story at the end. The pairings are great and the banter between them all is always a great piece of dialog. Combined with its unique magic setting and industrial revolutionary history makes this a wonderful and unique trilogy.

Historical heist plus a cool magic system?? Count me in! I loved the industrial vibes combined with the interesting magic system that reminded me of the small science from the Grisha universe. I have so many questions after finishing, not to mention a pile of tissues from the ending, I cannot wait to start the next one!

I wish there was more of the adventure than romance to fit in with the previous books. The spice level was a little over the top for me and I wanted to see more of the interactions between the new Valkyries and get more of their stories and growth. I really enjoyed Nesta's journey and growth as she found her place in a world she was forced into and found her own little family. As for Cassian, I loved him in the original trilogy, but he felt a little off in this book. The plot also felt really rushed and concluded way to fast. Even though it was left open with the potential of another big badguy. Maybe more will be done in future books.

Oh the twists! The game has become reality as mysterious Fates have been released and are slowly waking up to wreck havoc. The story follows both sisters this time flipping back and forth as they both try and figure out how to save everyone and each other at the same time. Tella's love triangle (?) was really interesting and I got excited when I found out Jacks is in Garber's more recent series. One more for the TBR!

I was not expecting the shift in perspectives but I love how we are now getting Tella's story after Scarlet's. We still get some of Scarlet but the focus is more on her sister Tella and how this Caraval is more real than ever. It was hard at first to believe that things were getting real after the first book.

The mystery and intrigue in this book! You cannot tell what is real and what is not. I am on the second book and I still have doubts about some of the happenings in the first one! I do not think the game ever ends. There are so many twists and turns and motivations seem to change at the drop of a hat. I hope the ending is real, I would be heartbroken for Scarlett if the act continues on through the next books.

One store describes this novel as Bridgerton meets Howl's Moving Castle and I cannot agree more. With such a short story, there was a lot packed in with dealings with cruel fae, a slow burn romance with scheming mothers, and a mysterious plague that is somehow connected with Dora's condition. Definitely recommend as a feel good romance.

I will read anything from the Shadowhunter universe at this rate and getting to follow Jem and Tessa even more? Sold! My favorite part of this universe is still the Clockwork trilogy with the Dark Artifices a close second. This brings them both together with eight short stories that all had me smiling (my favorite being The Land I Lost).

I love a good re-telling. This one is based off the Welsh myth of Cantre'r Gwaelod. Add a heist, adorable corgi, and an intriguing magic system and I was sold. My only complaint is that the characters felt a little flat and recycled from common tropes seen in fantasy YA. I wish there was a little more development but the plot and twists make up for it.

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

I know, I'm addicted. But this was a nice break from the main books and I enjoyed the chance to follow Simons character growth from one series to another. Some books were better than others, my favorite being "Born to Endless Night." Magnus is an amazing character and this story was so pure!

Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

This series is one of the best YA series I have ever read. The author has made me fall for so many of the characters, the representation is on point as is how she handles mental health. This is certainly the darkest of the three books but the ending was absolutely phenomenal. I truly hope we get to see the Blackthorn family more in future books. Though I think I may have to take a break from this universe to recover from the emotional damage.

I don't have words. The ending has ripped by heart out and run all over it. I want to throttle so many side characters. The Blackthorns don't deserve this. I am scared for Ty and how he will react in the next book but I am going to read it anyway cause I have so many questions and no answers!

I absolutely loved this book. The angst was a little drawn out for me, but the characters and plot made up for it. I was not expecting the neurodivergent representation and fell in love with Ty. I hope we get more of him in the next two books. I really liked the weaving in of the poem into the story and could not stop reading the last 200 pages. Everything was happening at once and so many reveals were made. I cannot wait to start the next book!

I was not expecting how this book turned out. It is so hauntingly nostalgic of childhood and I loved the dash of magic the Hempstock family embodied. It is hard to tell if the story is the vivid imagination of a child processing a family trauma, or some forgotten reality that we can only believe in when we are young. I will definitely be revisiting this book in the future and looking at some of this authors other books.

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

The final book in this trilogy went by fast, being the shortest of the three. While I really enjoyed the ending and could not stop smiling at Oak's antics at the end, it felt like there was more that could have been explored. The relationship between Cardan and Jude seemed to evolve overnight and many of the side plots that were mentioned were never explored. The last fifty pages felt like it could have been added to and made into its own book. I am sad this series is at an end because so much feels left unfinished.

Cardan is still a bully, but we are starting to see the reasons why he is such a jerk. This book also leans into the romance a little more between Jude and Cardan as political intrigue rises as well. I've begun enjoying their dynamic more and the word play the comes with the world of Faerie. The last chapter gave me hope on one page and then I threw the book across the room in anger on the next. Someone has some explaining to do.

I have mixed feelings about this first book. While I had a hard time putting it down, I also struggled to relate to Jude and understand some of her choices. I also am unsure how the main romance will play out as they are actively trying to kill each other at this point. The twist at the end will either set them up for a romance, or someone's going to be dead by the end of book 2.
