Sabriel has been sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre, near the wall that keeps people and other beings from entering the area from the Old Kingdom. She knows that she is different than the other girls at school. Her father only visits on rare occasions and lives in the Old Kingdom, which she doesn't really remember. She also knows that she has more power than most of the students, maybe even more than the magic teacher. In her last semester, she is sent a message that her father is missing. Sabriel knows she must enter the Old Kingdom to find him.
