Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Dr. Jane Darlington is freakishly smart and has many accomplishments to her name, but the one thing she wants more than anything is a baby. Her greatest fear is dooming a child to the teasing she once endured. To avoid this she needs to find someone, well, stupid to father her baby. Cal Bonner, the Chicago Stars shining quarterback, with his down home ways and model good looks, will suit just fine. Cal is more than a match for Jane--and isn't about to be used and abused by a brainy, baby-mad schemer.

The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O'Rourke

Summary: "A landmark exploration of one of the most consequential and mysterious issues of our time: the rise of chronic illness and autoimmune diseases

A silent epidemic of chronic illnesses afflicts tens of millions of Americans: these are diseases that are poorly understood, frequently marginalized, and can go undiagnosed and unrecognized altogether. Renowned writer Meghan O’Rourke delivers a revelatory investigation into this elusive category of “invisible” illness that encompasses autoimmune diseases, post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome, and now long COVID, synthesizing the personal and the universal to help all of us through this new frontier...

Blending lyricism and erudition, candor and empathy, O’Rourke brings together her deep and disparate talents and roles as critic, journalist, poet, teacher, and patient, synthesizing the personal and universal into one monumental project arguing for a seismic shift in our approach to disease. The Invisible Kingdom offers hope for the sick, solace and insight for their loved ones, and a radical new understanding of our bodies and our health."

Wow, what a read. Insightful, well-written, thought-provoking, heart-wrenching.

Relatable.

"The illness was severe but invisible. And that invisibility made all the difference--it made me invisible, which itself almost killed me." - Page 188

In the Afterlight

 In the Afterlight

By Alexandra Bracken

Pages: 544

"Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. Only Ruby has any power over him, and just one slip could lead to Clancy wreaking havoc on their minds. They are armed only with a volatile secret: proof of a government conspiracy to cover up the real cause of IAAN, the disease that has killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others like her with powers the government will kill to keep contained. But internal strife may destroy their only chance to free the "rehabilitation camps" housing thousands of other Psi kids."

The Darkest Minds.Never Fade.In the After Light. I love how the titles combine together to form this sentence that shows some hope for the kids. This final part of the trilogy started a little slow but the grand finale made up for it. The ending is so bittersweet and filled with hope. Everyone came back together at the end and I was excited to see the whole gang together. I still have some questions but I am hoping the fourth book, which seems more like a continuation on a different characters story, will wrap everything else up.

TS Song: Change

Hide by Kiersten White

The challenge: spend a week hiding in an abandoned amusement park and don't get caught.

The prize: enough money to change everything.

Even though everyone is desperate to win--to seize their dream futures or escape their haunting pasts--Mack feels sure that she can beat her competitors. All she has to do is hide, and she's an expert at that. It's the reason she's alive, and her family isn't.

But as the people around her begin disappearing one by one, Mack realizes this competition is more sinister than even she imagined, and that together might be the only way to survive. Fourteen competitors. Seven days. Everywhere to hide, but nowhere to run. Come out, come out, wherever you are.

The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath by Ian Green

I liked the premise, but then I got lost and confused because it was like...goblins, but they were described like aliens.... I'm not good at paying attention. I think it's because there were shifts in points of view, and I would sometimes miss the moment it shifted, so I was disoriented.

Never Fade

Never Fade

 By Alexandra Bracken

Pages: 513

"Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster. When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind."

Favorite quote from this book: “Oh, I'm sorry," Chubs said, 'apparently the middle of my sentence interrupted the beginning of yours. Do continue.” The character interactions in this book was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the development of characters in this book but the ending had me in tears. I am not sure how I feel about the revelation at the end, I like the characters the way they are and the secrets revealed could change alot.
