The Darkening by Sunya Mara

I felt like I was just thrown into the world with no warning, so that was a little jarring, and the story picked up about halfway through.
I. have. opinions. I can't remember what about. But I know that I have them.I think about the ending. 
The magic is super cool and like...there's some Shadow and Bone Netflix adaption vibes, with like.....some alchemy-y thrown in
