WE ARE ONLY TAKING WHAT WE NEED by Stephanie Powell Watts

Again a collection of short stories linked together by the author’s use of African American women characters very vividly rendered.  I was especially taken with the story of a young-ish waitress connecting with and then pushing away from a friendship (of sorts) with another young-ish woman who’s white and, at first glance, very different from the protagonist.  Actually, the pull/push of relationships is a core feature of this collection, the first book by this author.
