I saw the movie based on this book (and directed by the
author) and was curious enough to see how the book characterized the
protagonist whose diary is the basis of the story.
Charlie as a high school freshman
is the coming-of-age storyline. A very
bright student, Charlie has “normal” adolescent anxieties that can’t help but be
colored by his best friend’s suicide and the sudden death of a beloved
aunt.
I loved the depiction of the
English teacher who nurtures the budding writer.
