"Chasing Sam" by Krystal Shannan

Samantha (Sam) Demakis is in medical school in NC, but she's reluctantly returned to her family in Las Vegas for Christmas.  After landing at the airport, she meets Chase Michaels, and both of their inner wolves go crazy with lust.  Sam and Chase are unmated shifters, and unbeknownst to Sam, her high society family has set up a competition between others of their own class with her as the prize.  When she finds out, Sam tries to leave but is basically held hostage by her family.  They look down on the Michaels, but Sam agrees to the competition only if Chase is allowed to compete.  She believes that he's the only one who would allow her to live her dream of being a doctor, and her inner wolf says that he's her fated mate.

The more I read, the more I disliked this story.  Abusive parents and misogynistic traditions made it hard to finish.  Luckily, it was free and short.  78 pages (Kindle edition).
