"Second Hand" by Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan

Paul Hannon's fiancee has left him for another man, and he's stuck in a rental house that he can't afford on his own.  She's also left him with lots of useless gadgets that he bought her over their years together, which he decides to sell at the local pawn shop to make some extra cash.  He becomes friends with the shop owner, El Rozal, who has his own problems with his family; his sister keeps getting pregnant by losers, and their mother is a hoarder with abandonment issues.  This was a cute story of two very different men who somehow become friends.  Paul is wracked with self-doubt and disappointment over how his life has turned out, and El is confident but has put up emotional walls to protect himself from heartbreak.  The authors did a fine job of allowing the two men to grow and help each other change for the better, and an adorable doggie is also featured.  194 pages (Kindle edition).
