Critical Mass by Sara Paretsky

I don't know how Sara Paretsky always manages to work a current national issue into her mysteries!  This time out she gets a few digs in about the NSA's spying programs.  V.I. Warshawski is investigating the disappearance of the grandson of a paranoid, holocaust survivor who is also the mother of a meth addict and an old friend of V.I.'s friend Lotte. Whew! Her investigation is hampered by the necessity of staying offline and cell phone free so that her movements and research cannot be traced by either the NSA or two rogue Homeland Security agents. An engrossing read! 480 pages.
